About Me

Tom Coote My original plan in life was to become an international rock megastar. Unfortunately, nobody understood my art. After around ten years of playing guitar in failed heavy metal groups, I eventually went to university, as a mature student, to read Third World Studies. After this also failed to get me anywhere, I started to teach myself programming and eventually won a studentship to take an MSc in Information Technology.

The map below highlights the 113 countries that I have visited so far. My future travel wish list includes Belarus, Mongolia and Yemen.

I currently work as an analyst/developer in the IT industry, and write on a freelance basis. My first travel book Tearing up the Silk Road was published by Garnet Publications in August 2012 and I have recently completed the first draft for my second book Voodoo, Slaves and White Man's Graves. In the future, I intend to visit many more countries, write a best selling novel, and become an intergalactic time traveller.
